St. Patty's Day Sparkle1. Prime your whole eye.
Set Your LipstickAfter you have applied your lipstick, hold a tissue over your lips and lightly dust translucent powder over the tissue. The powder will ever so lightly fall on your lips through the tissue, and it will set your lip color the same way it sets your makeup when you use it on your face.
Soft Eye Mackup5 mineral makeup tips and tricksI love mineral makeup and recommend it to most of my clients. It’s easy-to-use, feels great on your skin, and makes you look amazing. But even easy-to-use products need to be applied correctly in order to achieve the effect you want. Here are some tips and tricks to applying mineral makeup perfectly.
Give yourself a minute to allow your moisturizer to dry before applying your mineral powder.
As with most things, using the right tools can make a world of difference in your end result. When applying mineral makeup, it’s worth investing in a good buki brush. A buki brush is a soft dome shaped brush that is especially effective at applying mineral powder and buffing the product onto the skin. It is designed specifically to apply the product evenly around the nose, mouth and eyes.
Mineral powders are extremely concentrated. This product is designed to be applied in layers. Start with one light layer and see if the coverage is what you want, if not apply additional layers till you reach the glow that simply can’t be duplicated by other types of makeup. Retouching your lipstick ..It is always best to remove all of your lipstick especially after you have retouched the makeup on your face. Remove your lipstick and, if your lips feel dry, apply lip balm and put on a completely new coat. This will help keep the look fresh and the original colour better.
Nail it ! ....Beautiful nails are one of the most important aspects of a woman's grooming. Whether they are short and practical or long and glamorous, your nails are always on show.

4 hottest short hair trends for 2013
I've rounded up the 5 hottest short hair trends for 2013.....Short hair is so popular this year that several short haircuts also appear in my list of the 20 Hottest Hairstyles of 2013. But which of these popular cuts best suit your face shape and hair texture? Read on to find out.
The PixieAudrey Hepburn was the original celebrity with pixie hair and Mia Farrow popularized the look in the 60s. In the past years, pixie hair has "cropped up" on a host of stylish singers and actresses including Michelle Williams, Ginnifer Goodwin, Emma Watson, Carey Mulligan, Halle Berry and most recently Anne Hathaway.
The pixie works best on women with thick, naturally wavy hair, but also looks good on women with fine, straight hair. Avoid the pixie if you have a long face -- the pixie could make your face appear longer. The pixie works best on women with heart-shaped, square and oval faces. It's a good cut for women with round faces, too, just be sure to add some volume to the top of your head.
The PompadourA hot new hairstyle trend for 2013 is the pompadour, also known as the quiff or the "fauxhawk." This hairstyle -- which usually features shaved sides and a puffy teased top that reminds me of a rooster's comb -- has become the cool hairstyle of choice for singers Miley Cyrus and Pink as well as a host of other celebrities.
Who can wear this look? Anyone with guts, really. And it depends on the cut. A good stylist is adept at funky hairstyles and knows to follow the shape of your head rather than just your face shape when cutting a short, edgy style.
The Bob
The bob is a classic hairstyle that never goes out of style.
This season's bob has a bit of edge to it. The hot bobs this year are messy, a bit tousled but they all end at the chin or just below it. Add in blunt bangs or fringe for a really edgy look.
So who can wear the bob? Anyone with a nice jawline and neck will look good in a bob. If you have a round face, a longer bob is a better option for you (see below). As for hair texture, bobs work best on thin to medium hair. Stay away from short hair if you have coarse or curly hair -- a bob will only puff out on you.
The Demi-Bob
The long bob has been around for a few seasons and it's still just as hot this year but it has a new name -- the demi-bob. According to Vogue Magazine, which named the demi-bob a hot trend , it's a bob that falls anywhere between the mid-neck and the shoulders. It's also been seen on many actresses and models this season as everyone seems to have gotten sick of their long, tousled waves at the same time.
Everyone looks good in a long bob so have at it, but be sure to abide by the rules of this haircut:
- Longer bobs can be bland if too blunt. Stacked layers in the back with a bit of backcombing while styling add dimension. Add fringe or thick bangs for a real retro-70s look.
- A bob can't be too layered, or it's not a bob. Gwyneth's demi-bob here was more edgy because the stylist thinned out the ends with scissors or a razor. But this year's bob isn't too blunt, either. Leave it wavy and mussed, blown dried under or flipped out 60's style.
- The long bob works best on straight and wavy hair but it looks good on all hair textures (even curly). It's a versatile cut because you can wear it air-dried or flat-ironed.
Summer makeup with Bella Vi ..
Just like fashion, beauty has seasonal trends. BeautyBible checks out the hottest looks for summer from the Bella Vi pure mineral makeup range.
Au Natural
Bella Vi pure mineral makeup is as light as a feather, lets your skin breathe, even outs skin tone and effortlessly covers rosacea, sunspots and under eye circles.
To achieve a silky and flawless base, apply Bella Vi’s mineral concealer under the eyes, loose pure mineral foundation in sheer layers across the face and finish with a light dusting of silk setting powder to absorb excess oils and leave your skin more matte for the hot summer heat.
Lightly apply Bella Vi’s Radiant Apricot blusher with a soft brush in a circular motion on the cheeks; groom the brows with Bella Vi’s Blonde Brow Powder and apply a nude, slightly shimmery shadow to the corners of the eye in a V shape. To finish the look apply a coat of mineral waterproof mascara and you are ready to hit the beach!
You’re a Doll
A step up from the trend above, use a slightly pinker blush on your dewy skin base, pretty pale pink lips with a slick of gloss and lashings of mascara to achieve a super-pretty, doll-like beauty look.
Think Pink
Beautiful summer makeup can be built with just a single colour – and this season it is pretty in pink, pink, pink!
It looks great on everyone, no matter what their age or skin colour, and you can use it on eyes, lips and cheeks.
Bella Vi’s blushers in Musk Or Pretty N Pink will give you a soft, delicate glow that will instantly brighten up your complexion and give you a healthy, fresh faced look.
A hot pink pout is summer’s version of the red lip - it’s sexy and gets attention without looking heavy. Get bright and bold with Bella Vi’s Pink Diva, or for a warmer skin tone, try Tangerine, for a pop of colour that is unforgettable.
Try keeping the rest of your makeup bare and subtle to pull this look off. Add a juicy gloss over top and keep it soft on the eyes – only define your lashline with a bit of mascara and a liner of your choice.
Eye for Impact
While minimalism may have dominated the catwalks recently, this summer is a great opportunity to make your eyes the focus with brightly coloured smoky eyes.
Melissa Furze, Director of Bella Vi Pure Mineral Makeup, says gold and amber based eyeshadows look best with blue eyes, greens and purples are great for hazel eyes and blue works perfect with brown eyes.
“Brighter colours tend to last longer on the skin so less is more,” she says. “Build the colour in layers to a solid block of colour.”
There's nothing quite like a metallic eye to put a pep in a girl's step, and bronze is the summer version of winter’s black smoky eye.
When choosing metallics, keep the look warm rather than tending towards the silver grey end of the spectrum. Opt for a warm golden Bella Vi’s Mocha, Gold or champagne tones.
Don’t be afraid to line the lower lashes with these colours for a smudgy, sexy appeal.
Beach Babe
Today’s sexy sizzling summer glow can be easily faked with bronzer, which will also protect your skin from UV damage.
Simply dust it where the sun would naturally hit your face and décolletage.
To create a stronger golden base, try using self-tan first (don’t forget your face), applying it lightly and keeping it natural.
Make your sun-kissed look more modern by subtly contouring your cheekbone by applying bronzer slightly lower than your upper jaw line. Get swept away with Bella Vi’ s bronzers in Stardust for shimmer or Gold dust and Sunkissed for a golden glow.
High Brow
Strong brows were a catwalk favourite at recent fashion weeks, giving a retro, boyish edge to otherwise feminine looks.
Get the look for yourself by creating softer, fuller eyebrows with Bella Vi’s Brow powder in Blonde or Coco, using the kabuki brow brush for the perfect shape.
Bella Vi mineral formulations are talc –free, non comedogenic and fee of perfumes, parabens and chemical dyes, making them ideal for the most sensitive skin types.
The woman behind mineral cosmetics ...
Jane Iredale is the founder of Iredale Mineral Cosmetics. She was the first to supply the aesthetics industry with a full-line of makeup based on minerals and the first to see the potential of offering physicians a makeup that was good for the skin. Gloss finds out about the benefits of minerals and her favourite beauty products and tips...
What made you decide to develop a makeup range?I came from a television and film background and saw how makeup negatively affected the skin - especially on actors and models filming under hot lights all day and receiving constant makeup retouches. This was clogging their skin and once I started looking into the ingredients used in standard makeup, I realised why it caused so many problems. I set out to develop a line that would not only make you feel good to wear it, but would actually be beneficial for the skin.'
What are the benefits of mineral makeup? The micronized minerals we use offer a natural, healthy alternative to conventional cosmetics. Inert minerals and natural colour pigments means there are no chemical dyes, or preservatives but give remarkable protection from the sun, with our PurePressed powder rated as high as SPF 20. Our products contain no fillers such as talc, and present virtually no allergy risk as they are completely free of sensitizers like perfumes.
The minerals also provide complete coverage for skin conditions such as acne and rosacea, and redness following treatments such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing and are non-comedogenic, allowing the skin to breathe and function normally.
What are the most common makeup mistakes that women make? The most common mistake in wearing minerals is that people wear too much because they aren't used to pure pigment. Another common mistake is putting on too much mascara. This can have the effect of adding age to the face and pulling the focus from the eyes. Another common mistake is that most women don't spend enough time grooming their brows which are crucial for balancing the face and making the eyes appear more important.
You can take your favourite five essentials to a desert island... what would you take?My Warm Sienna PurePressed Base and LipDrink.
Our Brush Shampoo which I presently use on my hair and I could use as a body wash.
Our new Spring/Summer Brush-Me Bronze SPF which is SPF 30 and a powder and would be light and effective to wear.
My toothbrush!
What are your top 5 beauty tips?Always use a good moisturiser.
Brush our minerals on top for a skin that's protected and natural-looking.
Pay special attention to well-shaped brows.
Blend blush well.
Use a lip pencil to define lips and as a base for a gloss or lipstick.
What advice would you give if someone wants to up their glamour quotient using makeup?Make sure that your foundation is a perfect match. Then get expert advice on what colours enhance your eyes. It's important to find someone you trust who understands what you want and doesn't want to impose a look on you. Makeup should enhance your natural beauty. I personally don't like the expression 'makeover'. We're not trying to make someone over but to make them look they way they are, only better.
What is the best way to match a foundation properly?Go to natural light and test the colour on your jaw line. If it disappears, it's the right shade. If you find it difficult to look at your jaw line, then try the shade on your cheekbone. It's always best to get professional help in the beginning.
Beauty fix ...
We spoke to Mecca Cosmetica's Head of Colour Australia, Tony Baumann, about a passion for hair and makeup, and the tips that can instantly improveyour makeup routine.
Kiwi fans of the greatest global beauty brands the likes of Nars, Stila, Prescriptives and Bumble and bumble no longer need to cross the ditch to get their fix - because Mecca Cosmetica has opened the doors to its first ever New Zealand store in Ponsonby.
What is the secret to aging gracefully?
Several ways! First skincare - you should get your skin diagnosed by someone you trust every six months, because your skin changes. Go somewhere that can tweak your regime personally. Every year you should have a makeup lesson; you don't necessarily need to change your look dramatically, but let someone take you through some fine points and ensure you have the right foundation.
What is your top beauty tip?
Use a primer under your makeup, preferably one you can wear on its own and that is made from botanicals that treat your skin as well as prime it, basically like clear makeup. Mecca sells a fantastic one by Nars, that you can put on up to four times before going out, and it plumps up the skin if you are feeling really run down. It works especially well under the eyes.
How did you get involved in the beauty industry?
I have had a passion for hair and makeup since I was about four years old. I remember putting rollers in my mothers' hair! What I love most of all is making people look and feel better about themselves, that is what it is all about.
What is a typical day for you?
There is no such thing as a typical day for me! I could be doing training, marketing, hosting an international makeup artist, travelling, meeting amazing people or at head office for meetings!
If you only have three minutes to do your makeup in the morning, what should your routine be?
Curl your eyelashes, apply concealer and slick on some die hard lippy.
What is the biggest makeup mistake people make?
They put on too much foundation, rub it between their hands and apply it all over the face like moisturiser.
What are some ways to instantly improve your makeup?
Use crème eyeshadow as a base and then press powdered eyeshadow into it for great colour that holds - and don't drag eyeshadow across your lids.
Apply blusher by dabbing on with one finger, and smudging with another.
Put foundation only on the centre of the face and chin, and blend it outwards - never put it all over the face.

What is the hottest makeup trend for winter?
Matte base, with a soft rosy glow on the cheekbones. Also, a strong red lip.
What is the secret to aging gracefully?
In terms of makeup application, toning down the eye makeup, and focusing more on a fantastic base and a great lip color to suit your skin tone. Also, having a diligent skincare regime.
What is your top beauty tip? Â
I can't stress enough how important it is to have perfectly primed skin before your base application! Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot range is an absolute must!

I start with my Auto Pilot Step 1-2-3 to cleanse, de-stress and moisturize, then apply Auto Pilot Pre-foundation Primer. I then apply my favourite base products which consist of Minimal Makeup, Pro Palette Concealer and Camera Finish Powder Foundation. At the moment I love Blush Patrol for my cheeks and even swept across my eyes for some warmth and finish with completing my eye makeup. I always have my Camera Finish Powder Foundation and gloss in my hand bag to touch up through out the day.
What are your top 5 fave beauty products?
Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer, Auto Pilot Eye Spy, Pro Palette Concealer, Camera Finish Powder Foundation and Eyebrow Pencil in Blond.
How did you get involved in the beauty industry?
After finishing Year 12, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in makeup so I did a Diploma in Makeup Artistry and then applied for a casual position at Napoleon Perdis in retail, and progressed in the company from there.
What is a typical day for you?
Well, there really isn't a 'typical day' for the Creative Team, but some of the activities in a day would include - Fashion Shows (eg, Fashion Week), Photo Shoots (eg, Australia's Next Top Model), Training - both internal staff and Pro Series courses at our Makeup Academies, creating facecharts for in store focuses and Trend reports.
Who are your beauty icons?
Marilyn Monroe - I adore her classic look from the 50's, and Scarlett Johansson in today's times who puts a modern day spin on the classic look.
If we only have 3 minutes to do a quick make-over in the morning what should our make -up routine be?
Camera Finish Powder Foundation is an effortless way of achieving a quick base when you're the gal on the go, then apply Blush Patrol to your cheeks and eyes, followed by a sweep of Long Black Mascara. To finish, apply Gloss Patrol in Dallas for a bit of shine to the lips!
What is the biggest make-up mistake people make?
Wearing far too much foundation. It's very ageing.
Foundation with a difference ...
Women expect more from their foundation than just good coverage these days.

Conceal it ...
The face often suffers from blemishes and imperfections. We discover how to conceal them... Even the most beautiful skin in the world can have age spots, sun spots or pimples - but with more and more concealers on the market than ever before, don’t be afraid to cover up those ‘oh no’ spots with a little dab. Here’s a few concealers we suggest:
Jane Iredale Disappear - This new liposome-based formula contains seaweed extracts and antioxidants such as green tea (which has been documented to combat acne bacteria) and is a fantastic camouflage cream. Harder wearing than traditional concealers, it even hides tattoos!
Dr.Hauschka Concealer - A new practical stick to use on those imperfections, Dr Hauschka Concealer has a creamy consistency which reliably hides irregular pigmentation and impurities, while soothing irritated skin and emphasising natural beauty. Easy to slip into your handbag for touch-ups.
Nutrimetics nc Total Cover Concealer - The sleek and stylish concealer stick provides excellent cover for your face, shoulders and cleavage and its silky texture means it glides on easily to create illuminating highlights – brightening the general complexion of the skin. Suitable for all skin types.
TIP: When buying a concealer to use on your face, don't test it on the back of your hand, as they are different in colour and you will end up with the wrong colour. Dab a bit on the spot you’d like to hide to make sure it blends well.
Beautiful summer brows ....Beautifully groomed eyebrows are an essential - they frame your face and create a polished look, even when you are not wearing makeup -perfect for summer and long days on the beach.
Happy feet ...Give your feet an extreme makeover for spring with this easy at-home pedicure...
The Right Red ...Red lippy is a tricky one - when not worn correctly it can go one of two ways: You can either end up looking like your mother, or risk having strange men in fast cars pulling over to ask you how much your hourly rate is. When worn the right way however, red lipstick is classy, chic and classic - and can take your look - and your outfit - from average, to 'super-smoking-red-hot-goddess'!

Over 40 and Fabulous ...Just like clothing, when you get to a certain age, you simply cannot wear the same makeup as you did when you were in your 20’s – the texture, elasticity and tone of the skin on your face changes and you need to change your makeup accordingly. Fear not – this does not mean you should stop being glam, get out your afghan rug and hang up the lipgloss – it is simply about taking an approach that is more suited to the stage your skin is in.
Bronzed Goddess ..We’re forever being told to cover up and keep out of the sun but for those us wanting a healthy summer glow without damaging your skin then bronzers are the way to go. I’ve been a fan for years and can’t leave home without it mine. During the week or in the evenings when I’m going out I use over top of my mineral foundation and in the weekends I simply moisturise, apply some bronzer and I’m good to go.
